The controversial transport service Uber should arrive until December in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
According to Uber’s general manager in Brazil, Guilherme Telles, the service still depends on some bureaucratic procedures, but the company has already started the registration of interested drivers.
Unlike what happened in other capitals, where it caused disorders with taxi drivers and deputies wanting to regulate the service, Uber should first only provide UberX, service with lower fare and popular cars, unlike Uber Black, conventional service with their luxury cars, which will be left for another time.
Further information on fares and coverage has not yet been disclosed, but drivers interested in working for the service should register on this site: http://www.partnerspoa.com/
On the other hand, the Mayor of Porto Alegre José Fortunatti gave an interview to Radio Gaúcha where he said:
We will not allow Uber to arrive in Porto Alegre doing what it has done in other cities: to enter and operate without a democratic debate and without a regulation. One cannot fail to comply with the law because new technologies are appearing.
It remains now to monitor the unfolding of this story.
