LISBON – Microsoft will acquire the Portuguese software company in Mobicom mobile communications, which will be the largest investment of the US company in Portugal, Microsoft’s general director Nuno Duarte announced.
Mobicom, based in Portugal, creates mobile services software that enable the management of personal data and will become one of Microsoft's research and development centers in Portugal after the acquisition.
Duarte did not reveal the amount involved in the purchase or any other financial details, explaining that he is awaiting an assessment of the company to define the final contours of the operation, predicting that this phase will be completed in three weeks.
" It is clearly the biggest investment Microsoft has made in Portugal in recent years. Mobicom will be a research and development center for Microsoft's mobile communications division," Microsoft's press conference representative said.
"Mobicom complements Microsoft's vision and allows us to put software developed in Portugal on our installed base of about 20 million users," he said.
The representative added that "the main objective of this acquisition is people and Portuguese research and development", stressing that "this acquisition proves that Portuguese market has created conditions for a company to create products with worldwide diffusion".
