Nokia Buys Symbian

Nokia announced its intention to buy Symbian.

Nokia intends to buy the 52 percent that it does not yet control of Symbian and then convert the company into a non-profit Foundation.

Nokia intends with this strategy to bet on the development of the Symbian operating system responding in this way to Apple's iPhone and Google's Android.

The Symbian operating system has a market share of around 60 percent in Europe and is available on Nokia smartphones and other companies such as Sony Ericsson.

Nokia hopes to unify the Symbian market and allow the number of applications for the Symbian operating system to increase exponentially.
