For Google's chief executive Eric Schmidt, finding out how to make money from YouTube is the company's top priority for this year. During an interview with American television, he promised to implement new tools on the portal with the aim of generating advertising revenue.
"I think we haven't figured out the perfect solution to how to make money [with YouTube] and we're working on it. This is our top priority this year," he told CNBC on Wednesday (30).
"I believe the best products will come this year. And they're new products. They were not announced," said the executive. According to him, the ads will be "much more participatory, much more creative".
Competition
Schmidt left open the question of a possible agreement with Yahoo!–which currently tries to escape Microsoft's bid– and criticized a supposed anti-competitive stance by Bill Gates's company in the negotiation.
According to him, his company still works in a partnership where Yahoo! replaces part of the existing ads in his Google-generated advertising search system. With that, Yahoo would be more free to explore other areas.
" We did this [the deal proposal] as part of a trade negotiation, which I obviously can't reveal, but it's one of the strategies options we think Yahoo! is considering," he said.
