Microsoft, Dell and Intel create memory usage pattern Flash

Microsoft, Dell and Intel announced an agreement to develop a new pattern of use of Flash NAND memory for PC applications, including hard drives and SSD drives there.

The three companies signed a specification sheet and formed a working group that bears the name NVMHCI (NON-Volatile Memory Host Controller Interface) and is composed of 35 members. They are developing a specification called NVMHCI 1.0, which will regulate the interface, hardware and command set responsible for communication between hardware and Flash memory.

In official statementBob Rinne, director-general of Microsoft's Windows Hardware Ecosystem unit, stated that "a number of NAND solutions are emerging that want to take better advantage of Windows Vista ReadyBoost and ReadyDrive functions". With this, he said, "the creation of a common interface pattern among all, will allow these solutions to evolve efficiently, relying on the proper support to integrate into the operating system".

NVMHCI 1.0 specifications describe an interface that uses only eight commands, enabling memory controller to optimize memory performance and resistance. The protocol will also allow the data present in the HD cache to be stored in a non-volatile memory through a single controller.
