That the Facebook Android app has inflated in recent times, that's nothing new. The app, before only a web version port, became a tangle of almost 240MB on the device, adding the user data and the cache generated by the app.
But today, Facebook announced Facebook Lite. A new app for the social network that promises to be much lighter. Designed for emerging markets, Facebook Lite has an installer of less than 1MB and promises to load and update quickly in regions where the connection is slow or limited.
In addition to saving the internet band, the new app should benefit those who have an input smartphone with little internal memory.
Facebook Lite has the common social network functions such as news feed, photos and notifications. The app is available today at Asia and should arrive in Latin America, Africa and Europe in the coming weeks.
