Internet telephony service Skype recently announced that it reached an agreement to acquire Qik, a video technology company that allows you to stream video directly from your phone.
Qik's main product is Qik Smart, which is available for over 200 smartphone models, including Android and iOS terminals, and allows users to film and share videos across smartphones and over the Internet.
Further details have not yet been released by Skype, but it is known that by the end of this month the purchase of Qik, with its 60 employees, will be completed. The main objective of the acquisition is to conquer the market for "mobile video".
"Qik is a complement to what we do; it is extremely strong in capturing video moments, streaming those moments and then sharing them anywhere," said Tony Bates, Skype's CEO, when he announced the agreement for the acquisition, at CES 2011.
