In an event (MOA – Master Overclocking Arena, Las Vegas) yesterday, Intel presented the new line of i7 processors.
So far so good, but what draws attention was the pronouncement of Paul Otellini, CEO of the company. According to Otellini, future computers will be able to run games with high graphics without needing a graphics card. In such an event, even desktops without video card were shown running high performance games.
The new Core i7 line has a 40% more performance than its predecessor and will run 50% better games. The forecast is that these processors will be available in the US from May.
Analysts have commented that this was an exaggerated statement, but Otellini ensures that removing graphics cards on PCs from the future is inevitable.
And here I am, glad I'm driving Left 4 Dead 2 on my notebook with Core i3... With one of those, I'm done! =P

Goodbye video card?

I don't think that's inevitable. Video cards can rather leave the PC to the most common users, who do not play so much or do not make so much use of the video card.
The branches are very distinct and the GPUs are with incredible technology and are only prone to improving more and more.
The CPU integrated GPU is only part of evolution. Let's just say it's like the replacement for the famous onboard video board, which actually uses part of the RAM memory to cache and process the graphics.
This is going to be a tremendous evolution, of course, but only for ordinary users. Gamers, scientists, designers, cinematographers and people who play video editing for sure still chose video cards, no doubt that's inevitable.
Unless the two companies (the one that produces GPU and the one that produces CPU) unite to really revolutionize the market.
AMD and ATI are one, but they didn't get to this point of replacing a video card on the desktop, and I don't think they want it right now. They are still in the GPU integration phase in the CPU for mobile.
That's useful.-

So if Intel joined Nvidia, do you think it would revolutionize the market? Since it's the top companies in their branches.

I don't think so. NVIDIA and Intel already have plans to get together and leave for this field, but still only for mobiles.
I think that it is AMD who will lead this evolution to desktops and so on, for the time being, because she has been accustomed to technology for longer and has structures already formed for one to be compatible with the other, besides having a better cost-benefit.
This revolution of not using any more video cards for lighter tasks and average games isn't going to happen for a few years.
Since holography is one of the next steps, the graphics card will still be needed, no doubt. 🙂-

Oh, yeah!
Also, you still have the 3D issue. It'll take a decent video card, won't it?
I think that if I set up a PC, it will be using AMD and ATI, for that matter of cost-benefit. It seems to come out cheaper and you go out with a good PC. =P

I've heard this story about Larrabee since 2008.

Great site. A lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends!
