Microsoft acquires Powerset

Microsoft confirmed what had long been said on the Internet, the purchase of Powerset, a company that has a different search system, cost Microsoft about $100 million. The purpose of the purchase is, of course, to improve Microsoft's search engine, Live Search.

For example, instead of researching "government + prime minister" to find out who the Prime Minister of Portugal is, he may choose to write "Who is the Prime Minister of Portugal?" and the search engine forwards him to the page with the Bibliography of José Socrates. The results are viewed on a page with a modern design (powered by Web 2.0) and all related entries and images.

All this to make the Microsoft search engine more human, rather than the algorithms used in machine language. Who if this purchase cannot affect the market leader in this area, Google.
